Biography

Juhyung Lim is the Second Prize winner of the IDRS Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Bassoon Competition, one of the most prestigious stages for bassoonists worldwide. His exceptional musicality has also been recognized through the First Prize at the 2024 International Bassoon Artistry and Unconventional Collaboration Competition and theU-21 Special Prize at the Muri Competition in 2019. Born in South Korea, he began his musical journey under the guidance of Ho-joon Choi. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at theKorea National University of Arts (K-ARTS), studying with Min-ho Lee, Ji-hyun Lee, and Jung-sun Kwak. Seeking further artistic growth, he moved to Switzerland and successfully completed his Master of Arts in Music Performance at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). He is currently pursuing a Specialized Master in Soloism at the same institution under the tutelage of Professor Matthias Rácz and Hans Agreda.

During his studies in South Korea, he distinguished himself by winning top prizes in major national competitions, including Second Prize at both the Dong-A Music Competition and the Busan MBC Music Competition, as well as First Prize at the Overseas Dispatch Music Competition.Alongside his solo pursuits, Juhyung Lim has developed a strong orchestral career. A recognized Kumho Young Artist, he has performed as a guest musician with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and served as the Principal Bassoon of the One Korea Youth Orchestra under the direction of Myung-whun Chung. During his Master’s studies at ZHdK, he further refined his professional skills through an internship with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. He continues to expand his artistic presence as a promising soloist and orchestral musician across Europe.
